O palácio de porcelana
The porcelain palace
English translation
This story took place in China, many, many years ago, when the emperor and all the members of his court were Chinese. It is best to tell it now, before someone forgets it.
Portuguese
No jardim cresciam flores extraordinárias.
English translation
The emperor’s palace was the most beautiful in the world. Built entirely of porcelain, it cost a fortune, but it was so fragile that everyone had to be careful when touching it. Extraordinary flowers grew in the garden. Little silver bells were fastened to them, and their ringing caught the attention of passersby. That way, no one failed to admire the flowers.
English translation
Everything in that garden was impressive, even its size: not even the gardener himself knew where it ended.
