Scene 1 · Intermediate

Le palais de porcelaine

The porcelain palace

English translation

This story took place in China so long ago that it is best to tell it before it is forgotten. The emperor owned the most beautiful palace in the world, built entirely of porcelain. Despite its enormous cost, it was so fragile that one had to be careful when touching it.

English translation

The garden was just as remarkable. Small silver bells attached to the most unusual flowers chimed to attract the attention of passersby. The grounds stretched so far that even the gardener himself did not know where they ended.
