Scene 1 · Beginner

Farfuria întinsă a vulpii

The fox's shallow dish

Romanian

Dar a vrut să-i facă o farsă, așa că i-a dat doar supă, într-o farfurie foarte puțin adâncă.

English translation

The fox and the stork often visited each other and seemed to be very good friends. One day, the fox invited the stork to dinner. But she wanted to play a trick on her, so she gave her only soup, on a very shallow plate.

English translation

The fox could lick up the soup with her tongue and eat without difficulty. The stork, however, had a long beak. She could put only the tip of her beak into the soup, so she couldn't manage to eat. She left the table just as hungry as before.

Romanian

— Îmi pare rău că nu vă place supa, a spus vulpea.

English translation

“I’m sorry you don’t like the soup,” said the fox.

English translation

The stork told her that she didn’t need to apologize. Then she invited her to dinner too: “I hope you’ll come soon to have dinner with me.”

English translation

The two of them chose a day for the fox’s visit.
