Departe de uscat, apa oceanului era albastră și foarte limpede. Marea era atât de adâncă, încât multe turnuri de biserică puse unul peste altul nu ar fi ajuns până la suprafață. Acolo locuia Regele Mării, împreună cu poporul lui.
Far from land, the ocean water was blue and very clear. The sea was so deep that many church towers stacked one on top of another would not have reached the surface. The Sea King lived there with his people.
Pe fundul mării creșteau flori și plante care se mișcau ușor în apă. Peștii înotau printre ele, așa cum zboară păsările printre copaci. În locul cel mai adânc se afla castelul regelui. Avea pereți de coral și ferestre înalte de chihlimbar, un material galben și limpede. Acoperișul era făcut din scoici.
Flowers and plants grew on the sea floor, moving gently in the water. Fish swam among them, just as birds fly among trees. The king’s castle stood in the deepest place. It had coral walls and tall windows made of amber, a clear yellow material. The roof was made of shells.

They opened and closed, and a pearl shone inside each one.
