Scene 1 · Intermediate

Castelul Regelui Mării

The Sea King's castle

English translation

Far out in the ocean, the water is as blue as a cornflower and as clear as crystal. The sea is so deep that even many church spires stacked one on top of another would not reach from the bottom to the surface. The Sea King and his subjects live there.

English translation

The seabed is not a barren stretch of sand. Unusual flowers and plants grow everywhere, with leaves and stems so flexible that they sway at the slightest movement of the water. Big and small fish glide among the branches, just as birds fly among the trees on land.

English translation

The king’s castle stands in the deepest part of the sea. It has coral walls and tall windows made of clear amber. Its roof is made of shells that open and close with the movement of the water. Each shell hides a shining pearl, beautiful enough for a queen’s crown.
