Weit draußen im Meer war das Wasser blau und klar. Das Wasser war dort sehr tief. Ganz unten lebte der Meerkönig mit seinem Volk.
Far out in the sea, the water was blue and clear. The water was very deep there. At the very bottom lived the Sea King and his people.
Auf dem Meeresboden wuchsen seltsame Blumen und Pflanzen. Ihre Blätter bewegten sich im Wasser, und zwischen ihnen schwammen Fische. An der tiefsten Stelle stand das Schloss des Meerkönigs. Es hatte Mauern aus Korallen und Fenster aus Bernstein, einem klaren, goldgelben Material. Das Dach bestand aus Muscheln. Sie öffneten und schlossen sich im Wasser, und in jeder lag eine glänzende Perle.
Strange flowers and plants grew on the seabed. Their leaves moved in the water, and fish swam among them. At the deepest point stood the Sea King’s castle. It had walls of coral and windows of amber, a clear, golden-yellow material. The roof was made of shells. They opened and closed in the water, and each one held a shining pearl.
