English translation
Jacob lived in Canaan, where his father had lived before him. He was also called Israel. He had many children. His son Joseph was seventeen years old. Joseph tended the flock with his brothers. Among them were the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob's wives. Joseph told his father about his brothers' bad behavior.
English translation
Jacob loved Joseph more than his other children because Joseph had been born when his father was old. He made Joseph a multicolored tunic, a long shirt. When his brothers saw that their father loved Joseph more, they hated him. They could not even speak to him calmly.
