The coat of many colors
English translation
Jacob, who was also called Israel, lived in the land of Canaan, where his father had lived before him. He had a seventeen-year-old son named Joseph. Joseph tended the flock with his brothers, including the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob’s wives. Joseph told his father troubling things about his brothers.
English translation
Israel loved Joseph more than his other children because he had been born when his father was old. He made his beloved son a multicolored tunic. The brothers noticed this special treatment. They hated Joseph so much that they could not even speak to him peacefully.
