Långt ute till havs är vattnet blått som en blåklint och klart som glas. Ändå är det så djupt att en hel rad kyrktorn ovanpå varandra inte skulle nå från botten till ytan. Där nere bor havskungen och hans folk. Mjuka växter följer vattnets minsta rörelse, och fiskarna glider mellan grenarna som fåglar bland träden.
English translation
Far out at sea, the water is as blue as a cornflower and as clear as glass. Yet it is so deep that a whole row of church towers stacked on top of one another would not reach from the bottom to the surface. Down there live the Sea King and his people. Soft plants follow the slightest movement of the water, and fish glide among the branches like birds among trees.

På den djupaste platsen står havskungens slott, med väggar av korall och höga fönster av bärnsten. Takets musselskal öppnar och sluter sig när vattnet strömmar förbi. I varje skal glittrar en pärla, värdig en drottnings krona.
English translation
At the deepest point stands the Sea King’s palace, with walls of coral and tall windows of amber. The mussel shells on the roof open and close as the water flows past. In each shell glitters a pearl worthy of a queen’s crown.
