Daleko na oceanie, gdzie woda jest błękitna jak chabry i przejrzysta jak kryształ, morze jest tak głębokie, że żadna lina nie wystarczyłaby do zmierzenia jego głębokości. Nawet wiele kościelnych wież ustawionych jedna na drugiej nie sięgnęłoby od dna do powierzchni. Właśnie tam mieszka król mórz ze swoimi poddanymi.
English translation
Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as cornflowers and as clear as crystal, the sea is so deep that no rope could measure its depth. Even many church towers stacked one on top of another could not reach from the bottom to the surface. That is where the Sea King lives with his subjects.

Na dnie nie leży jedynie pusty, żółty piasek. Rosną tam niezwykłe kwiaty i rośliny o tak giętkich liściach i łodygach, że porusza je najlżejszy ruch wody. Między ich gałęziami przemykają ryby, podobnie jak ptaki między drzewami na lądzie.
English translation
The seabed is not covered only with empty, yellow sand. Extraordinary flowers and plants grow there, with leaves and stems so flexible that the slightest movement of the water makes them sway. Fish dart among their branches, just as birds do among trees on land.

W najgłębszym miejscu stoi królewski zamek. Ma koralowe ściany i wysokie okna z czystego bursztynu. Jego dach tworzą muszle, otwierające się i zamykające w przepływającej wodzie. W każdej błyszczy perła tak piękna, że mogłaby ozdobić koronę królowej.
English translation
The royal palace stands in the deepest place. It has coral walls and tall windows made of clear amber. Its roof is made of shells that open and close in the flowing water. Each one holds a pearl so beautiful it could decorate a queen’s crown.
