Scene 1 · Intermediate

The coat of many colors

English translation

Jacob, also called Israel, lived in Canaan, the land where his father had lived. His son Joseph was seventeen and tended the flock with his brothers. Among them were the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob’s wives.

English translation

Joseph brought their father bad reports about his brothers.

English translation

Jacob loved Joseph more than his other children because he had fathered him in his old age. He had even made him a colorful robe. His brothers saw this special love and hated Joseph so much that they could not speak kindly to him.
