Tunica multicoloră
The coat of many colors
English translation
Jacob, also called Israel, lived in Canaan, the land where his father had also lived. Among his sons was Joseph, a young man of seventeen. He tended the flock with his brothers, including the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob’s wives, and had brought their father bad reports about them.
English translation
Israel loved Joseph more than his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. He had made him a multicolored tunic. Seeing that their father loved him more than them, his brothers came to hate him and could no longer speak kindly to him.
