Scene 1 · Intermediate

Lustro złego czarodzieja

The wicked magician's mirror

English translation

Listen to our story. Before we reach the end, we will surely learn something we don’t know yet.

English translation

Once there lived a very wicked wizard who created an extraordinary mirror. Everything good and beautiful shrank in it almost to nothing. But ugliness and worthless things grew enormous and looked ten times worse than they really were. In its reflection, a beautiful landscape looked like boiled spinach. People’s faces were so distorted that even their friends wouldn’t recognize them.

English translation

A tiny freckle spread across a nose and mouth, while a good or pious thought brought a strange wrinkle to the reflected face.

Polish

Czarodziej chichotał z zachwytu nad swoim wynalazkiem.

English translation

The wizard chuckled with delight at his invention. His pupils spread the word about the mirror and claimed that only it showed the world and people as they really were.
