El espejo del mago malvado
The wicked magician's mirror
English translation
Listen, we're about to begin a story. When we reach the end, perhaps we'll know something we don't know now. Once upon a time there was a terribly wicked magician who built an extraordinary mirror. Everything good and beautiful was reduced to almost nothing when reflected in it; ugly and useless things, by contrast, looked ten times worse.
English translation
The most beautiful landscapes turned into something like boiled spinach, and faces were distorted beyond recognition. A single freckle seemed to cover the nose and mouth. Even a kind thought made a wrinkle appear in the reflection.
English translation
The magician was delighted with his invention and laughed. The pupils at his school made it famous, claiming that at last people could see the world and its inhabitants as they really were.
