Nu börjar vår historia! Det var en gång en ond trollkarl som hade gjort en spegel med en märklig egenskap. Allt gott och vackert krympte till nästan ingenting i glaset, medan allt fult och dåligt förstorades.
Now our story begins! Once upon a time, an evil sorcerer made a mirror with a strange property. Everything good and beautiful shrank to almost nothing in the glass, while everything ugly and bad was magnified.
De vackraste landskap såg ut som kokt spenat, och ett vänligt ansikte blev så förvridet att inte ens personens vänner skulle ha känt igen det. En liten fräkne kunde plötsligt täcka både näsan och munnen. Till och med en god tanke kunde lämna ett fult veck i spegelbilden.
The most beautiful landscapes looked like boiled spinach, and a friendly face became so distorted that not even the person's friends would have recognized it. A little freckle could suddenly cover both nose and mouth. Even a good thought could leave an ugly crease in the reflection.
Trollkarlen skrattade förtjust åt sin uppfinning. Hans elever spred ryktet om spegeln och påstod att den äntligen visade världen sådan den verkligen var.
The sorcerer laughed with delight at his invention. His pupils spread word of the mirror, claiming that it finally showed the world as it really was.
