Den onde trollmannens speil

The wicked magician's mirror

English translation

Now the story begins. By the time we reach the end, we may know a little more than we do now.

English translation

Once upon a time there was a terribly wicked sorcerer. He made a mirror that shrank everything good and beautiful until it almost disappeared. Everything ugly, on the other hand, grew bigger and looked ten times worse. Beautiful landscapes looked like cooked spinach, and people’s faces became so distorted that even their friends wouldn’t have recognized them.

Norwegian

Trollmannen humret fornøyd over oppfinnelsen sin.

English translation

A little freckle could cover both nose and mouth, and a good thought showed up as a wrinkle. The sorcerer chuckled, pleased with his invention. The pupils at the school of sorcery spread the word about the mirror. At last, they claimed, you could see the world and its people as they really were.
