Lo specchio del mago malvagio
The wicked magician's mirror
English translation
Listen: our story begins with an evil magician, very pleased with his latest invention. He had made a mirror that could distort everything it reflected. Goodness and beauty became so small that they almost disappeared altogether; ugly, useless things, on the other hand, seemed ten times worse.
English translation
In the mirror, the most enchanting landscapes looked like boiled spinach. Beautiful people's faces were so distorted that even their friends would not have recognized them. A single freckle was enough to make a nose and mouth look covered in spots. And if someone had a good or devout thought, a grimace appeared on their reflection.
English translation
The magician laughed, delighted with his invention. The pupils at his school of magic talked about it everywhere: in their opinion, the mirror finally showed the world and its inhabitants as they really were.
