El soldadito de una sola pierna
The one-legged tin soldier
English translation
Once upon a time there were twenty-five tin soldiers, all brothers because they had been made from the same old spoon. They wore beautiful red and blue uniforms, carried their weapons on their shoulders, and looked straight ahead.
English translation
“Tin soldiers!” Those were the first words they heard when the lid of their box was lifted. A boy clapped with joy: they were his birthday present. He came over to the table and stood them up one by one.
English translation
They were all identical except for the last one, who was missing a leg. He had been left until the end, and there wasn’t enough melted metal left to finish him. Even so, he stood so firmly on his one leg that he was quite special.
