Scene 1 · Beginner
De spiegel van de boosaardige tovenaar
The wicked magician's mirror
English translation
Once upon a time there was a very wicked wizard. He made a remarkable mirror. Everything beautiful and good looked small and unimportant in it. Everything ugly and bad, by contrast, looked much bigger and worse. Even the most beautiful people had strange, ugly faces in the mirror.
English translation
The wizard laughed at his work. He taught at a school of magic. His pupils thought the mirror was wonderful. Everywhere they went, they said that with it, at last, you could see what the world was really like.
