Scene 1 · Beginner

Une cane attend sur son nid

A duck waiting on her nest

English translation

It is summer in the countryside. Large forests around the fields and meadows are home to deep ponds. Near an old farm and a river, very large leaves hide a nest. A mother duck is waiting for her little ones to hatch. She is beginning to get tired of waiting.

English translation

The other ducks rarely visit her: they prefer swimming in the river to climbing up the slippery bank.
