Scene 1 · Beginner

Kaczka czeka na gnieździe

A duck waiting on her nest

English translation

It was summer. Golden grain grew in the countryside, and hay lay in the meadows. Deep ponds lay among the fields and forests. An old country house stood by the river. Between the house and the water grew leaves so large that a small child could hide beneath them.

English translation

Under those leaves, a duck sat on her nest and waited for her ducklings. She was already tired because the ducklings were taking a long time to hatch. Few visitors came to see her. The other ducks preferred swimming in the river to coming to visit her along the slippery bank.
