Scene 1 · Beginner
Een eend wacht op haar nest
A duck waiting on her nest
English translation
It was summer in the countryside. The grain was yellow, and there was hay in the meadows. A deep river flowed beside an old farm. Large leaves grew between the house and the water. Some were so tall that a small child could stand underneath them.
English translation
Under those leaves, a duck sat on her nest. She waited for her young to hatch, but it was taking a long time. She was beginning to get tired of waiting. She had few visitors. The other ducks preferred swimming in the river to sitting with her.
