È estate e la campagna è bellissima. Nei campi il grano è giallo, i prati sono verdi e intorno ci sono grandi boschi. Vicino a un fiume profondo c'è una vecchia casa di campagna. Fra la casa e l'acqua crescono piante con foglie molto grandi.
English translation
It is summer, and the countryside is beautiful. The wheat in the fields is yellow, the meadows are green, and there are great woods all around. Near a deep river stands an old farmhouse. Plants with very large leaves grow between the house and the water.

Sotto quelle foglie un'anatra sta nel suo nido e tiene al caldo le uova. Aspetta la nascita dei piccoli, ma comincia a essere stanca: le uova non si aprono e poche anatre vengono a trovarla. Le altre preferiscono nuotare nel fiume.
English translation
Under those leaves, a duck sits in her nest, keeping her eggs warm. She is waiting for the ducklings to hatch, but she is beginning to get tired: the eggs won’t open, and few ducks come to visit her. The others prefer to swim in the river.
