Un uomo che conosce bene la legge religiosa si alza. Vuole mettere alla prova Gesù e gli chiede: «Maestro, che cosa devo fare per avere la vita eterna, per vivere per sempre?»
A man who knows religious law well stands up. He wants to test Jesus and asks him, “Teacher, what must I do to have eternal life, to live forever?”
Gesù gli domanda: «Che cosa dice la legge? Tu che cosa leggi?»
Jesus asks him, “What does the law say? What do you read there?”
L'uomo risponde: «Devi amare il Signore tuo Dio con tutto il cuore, tutta l'anima, tutta la forza e tutta la mente. E devi amare il tuo prossimo come te stesso».
The man replies, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. And you must love your neighbor as yourself.”
«Hai risposto bene», dice Gesù. «Fa' questo e vivrai».
“You have answered well,” Jesus says. “Do this and you will live.”
