Um homem que conhecia muito bem a lei religiosa se levantou. Ele queria testar Jesus e perguntou: — Mestre, o que devo fazer para ter a vida eterna?
A man who knew the religious law very well stood up. He wanted to test Jesus and asked: “Teacher, what must I do to have eternal life?”
— O que a lei diz? Como você a entende? — perguntou Jesus.
“What does the law say? How do you understand it?” Jesus asked.
O homem respondeu: — Você deve amar o Senhor, seu Deus, com todo o seu coração, sua alma, suas forças e sua mente. E deve amar o seu próximo como ama a si mesmo.
The man answered: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind. And you must love your neighbor as you love yourself.”
— Sua resposta está certa — disse Jesus. — Faça isso e viverá.
“Your answer is correct,” Jesus said. “Do this, and you will live.”
