Egy törvénytudó, aki jól ismerte Isten törvényét, felállt. Próbára akarta tenni Jézust, ezért megkérdezte: – Mester, mit tegyek, hogy örökké éljek?
An expert in the law who knew God’s law well stood up. He wanted to test Jesus, so he asked: “Teacher, what must I do to live forever?”
– Mit mond erről a törvény? – kérdezte Jézus. – Ön hogyan érti?
“What does the law say about this?” Jesus asked. “How do you understand it?”
– Szeresd az Urat, a te Istenedet teljes szívedből, teljes lelkedből, minden erőddel és minden gondolatoddal. A felebarátodat pedig szeresd úgy, mint saját magadat – felelte a törvénytudó.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself,” the expert in the law replied.
– Jól válaszolt – mondta Jézus. – Tegye ezt, és élni fog.
“You have answered well,” Jesus said. “Do this, and you will live.”
