En mann som kjente loven godt, reiste seg. Han ville sette Jesus på prøve. «Lærer, hva må jeg gjøre for å få evig liv?» spurte han.
A man who knew the law well stood up. He wanted to put Jesus to the test. “Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life?” he asked.
Jesus spurte hva som sto i loven, og hvordan mannen forsto det. Mannen svarte at man skal elske Gud med hele seg. Man skal også elske sin neste like høyt som seg selv.
Jesus asked what the law said and how the man understood it. The man answered that you must love God with your whole being. You must also love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.
«Det er riktig», sa Jesus. «Gjør det, så skal du leve.»
“That’s right,” said Jesus. “Do that and you will live.”
