Ein Gesetzesgelehrter stand auf. Dieser Mann kannte das Gesetz sehr gut. Er wollte Jesus mit einer Frage prüfen. „Lehrer, was muss ich tun, um ewig zu leben?“, fragte er.
An expert in the law stood up. This man knew the law very well. He wanted to test Jesus with a question. “Teacher, what must I do to live forever?” he asked.
Jesus fragte zurück: „Was steht im Gesetz? Wie verstehst du es?“
Jesus replied with a question: “What does the law say? How do you understand it?”
Der Mann antwortete: „Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben: mit ganzem Herzen, mit ganzer Seele, mit all deiner Kraft und mit deinem ganzen Verstand. Und du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst.“
The man answered: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. And you must love your neighbor as yourself.”
„Das ist richtig“, sagte Jesus. „Tu das, dann wirst du leben.“
“That is right,” Jesus said. “Do that, and you will live.”
