Un învățat, un om care cunoștea bine legea religioasă, s-a ridicat. Voia să-L pună la încercare pe Isus, așa că L-a întrebat: — Învățătorule, ce trebuie să fac ca să am o viață fără sfârșit?
A scholar, a man who knew religious law well, stood up. He wanted to test Jesus, so he asked him: “Teacher, what must I do to have eternal life?”
Isus l-a întrebat ce era scris în Lege. Învățatul a răspuns că trebuie să-L iubești pe Domnul Dumnezeul tău cu toată inima, cu tot sufletul, cu toată puterea și cu toată mintea. Trebuie să-l iubești și pe aproapele tău ca pe tine însuți.
Jesus asked him what was written in the Law. The scholar replied that you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. You must also love your neighbor as yourself.
— Ați răspuns corect, i-a spus Isus. Faceți aceasta și veți trăi.
“You have answered correctly,” Jesus told him. “Do this, and you will live.”
