Pewien człowiek dobrze znał prawo religijne. Wstał, bo chciał wystawić Jezusa na próbę. Zapytał go: – Nauczycielu, co mam zrobić, żeby żyć wiecznie?
A man who knew religious law well stood up because he wanted to test Jesus. He asked him: “Teacher, what must I do to live forever?”
Jezus zapytał, co mówi o tym Prawo i jak ten człowiek rozumie jego słowa.
Jesus asked what the Law said about it and how the man understood its words.
Znawca prawa odpowiedział, że trzeba kochać Pana, swojego Boga, całym sercem, całą duszą, ze wszystkich sił i całym umysłem. Trzeba też kochać swojego bliźniego tak jak siebie samego.
The expert in the law answered that you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. You must also love your neighbor as yourself.
– Dobrze odpowiedziałeś – powiedział Jezus. – Rób tak, a będziesz żył.
“You answered well,” Jesus said. “Do this, and you will live.”
