Det var för länge sedan, på den tiden då önskningar fortfarande kunde gå i uppfyllelse. En kung hade flera vackra döttrar. Den yngsta var så vacker att till och med solen, som hade sett så mycket, häpnade varje gång den lyste på hennes ansikte.
It was long ago, in the days when wishes could still come true. A king had several beautiful daughters. The youngest was so beautiful that even the sun, which had seen so much, was amazed every time it shone on her face.
Precis intill kungens slott låg en stor, mörk skog. Där fanns en brunn under en gammal lind, och när det var riktigt varmt brukade prinsessan slå sig ner vid den svala brunnen. Om hon fick tråkigt tog hon fram sin favoritleksak, en guldkula som hon kastade högt upp i luften och fångade igen.
Right beside the king's castle was a large, dark forest. There was a well under an old linden tree, and when it was very hot, the princess would sit by the cool well. If she got bored, she would take out her favorite toy, a golden ball, which she threw high into the air and caught again.
