Scene 1 · Intermediate
Moses and Aaron spoke on behalf of the Israelites to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.
God said to Moses, “Pharaoh stands by his refusal. He will not let the people go. Tomorrow morning, when he goes down to the river, meet him on the bank. Take the staff that turned into a snake.”
Moses was to tell Pharaoh that the God of the Hebrews had sent him with a message: “Let my people go so they can serve me in the wilderness. So far you have not listened. But now you will see that I am God. When the staff strikes the river, the water will turn to blood.”
“The fish will die, the river will stink, and the Egyptians will be disgusted at the thought of drinking from it.”
God also told Moses to tell Aaron to stretch out the staff over Egypt’s rivers, streams, pools, and ponds. All the water was to turn to blood, even the water in wooden and stone vessels.
