Scene 1 · Intermediate

Een waarschuwing bij de rivier

A warning at the river

English translation

Moses and Aaron spoke to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, on behalf of the Israelites. Yet he kept refusing to let the people leave.

Dutch

God zei tegen Mozes: ‘De farao blijft koppig.

English translation

God said to Moses: “Pharaoh is still stubborn. Go to the river tomorrow morning, where he goes to the water. Wait for him on the bank and take the staff that turned into a snake. Tell him that the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent you.”

English translation

“He must let my people go so they can serve me in the wilderness. So far, he has not listened.”

English translation

Moses also had to tell him what would happen: the river water would be struck with the staff and turn to blood. The fish would die, and the river would stink so badly that the Egyptians would not want to drink its water. That way, Pharaoh would know who God was.

English translation

Then God said to Moses: “Tell Aaron to take his staff and stretch his hand over all the water in Egypt: the rivers, streams, pools, and reservoirs. It will all turn to blood, even the water in wooden and stone containers.”
