Scene 1 · Intermediate

Uma advertência à beira do rio

A warning at the river

English translation

Moses and Aaron spoke to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, on behalf of the Israelites. But the king continued to refuse to let the people leave.

English translation

God said to Moses: “Pharaoh is determined not to give in. Tomorrow morning, when he goes down to the water, wait for him on the riverbank.”

English translation

“Take the staff that turned into a snake and deliver this message: ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you to ask you to let his people leave to serve him in the wilderness. So far, you have refused to listen. That is why God will turn the river water into blood. Then you will know who he is.’”

English translation

“‘The fish will die, the water will smell terrible, and the Egyptians will be disgusted at the thought of drinking it.’”

English translation

God also told Moses to tell Aaron to stretch out his hand with his staff over the waters of Egypt. Rivers, streams, ponds, and reservoirs would turn to blood. Even water stored in wooden and stone containers would be affected.
