Scene 1 · Intermediate

Eine Warnung am Fluss

A warning at the river

English translation

Moses and Aaron represented the Israelites before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. But Pharaoh continued to refuse to let the people go.

English translation

God said to Moses: “Pharaoh remains unyielding. Go to meet him by the river early tomorrow morning, and take the staff that turned into a snake. Tell him that the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent you. He must let my people go so they can serve me in the wilderness. So far, he has not listened to me.”

English translation

Moses was also to announce to Pharaoh what would happen next: A blow with the staff would turn the river water into blood. The fish would die, and the river would stink so badly that the Egyptians would no longer be able to drink its water. This would show Pharaoh who the Lord was.

English translation

Then God gave Moses an order for Aaron: “He is to take his staff and stretch his hand over all the waters of Egypt: over rivers and streams, pools and ponds. Everywhere in the land, the water is to turn to blood, even in containers made of wood and stone.”
