Snehvide bliver født
Snow-white is born
English translation
In the middle of winter, while snowflakes drifted down like feathers, a queen sat sewing by a window with a black ebony frame. As she sewed, she looked out at the snow and accidentally pricked her finger. Three drops of blood fell onto the snow.
English translation
The red blood looked so beautiful against the white that she thought, “If only I had a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the wood of the window frame.”
English translation
Soon afterward, the queen had a little daughter. The girl had skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony, so she was named Snow White. The queen died after the child was born.
