Se naște Albă-ca-Zăpada
Snow-white is born
English translation
It was the middle of winter, and snowflakes fell from the sky like feathers. A queen was sewing beside a window with an ebony frame, a kind of black wood. As she gazed at the snow outside, she pricked her finger with the needle.
English translation
Three drops of blood fell onto the snow, and their red color seemed so beautiful against the white around them that she wished for a child with those colors.
Romanian
și-a spus ea.
English translation
“I’d give anything to have a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the window frame!” she said to herself.
English translation
Before long, the queen gave birth to a little girl with white skin, red cheeks, and hair as black as ebony. That was why the child was named Snow White. But the queen died when the child was born.
