Snøhvit blir født
Snow-white is born
English translation
In the middle of winter, while snowflakes drifted down from the sky like feathers, a queen sat sewing by a window with a black ebony frame. She looked out at the snow and pricked her finger with the needle. Three drops of blood fell onto the snow.
English translation
The red stood out so beautifully against the white that the queen thought, “If only I could have a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the wood of the window frame.”
English translation
Not long afterward, she had a daughter with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony. That was why they called her little Snow White. The queen died when the child was born.
