Snow-white is born

English

One winter day, snowflakes drifted from the sky like feathers. A queen sat sewing beside a window with a frame of black ebony wood. As she watched the snow, she pricked her finger with her needle, and three drops of blood fell onto the snow.

English

The red looked so beautiful against the white that she thought, “If only I had a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as this window frame.”

English

Soon afterward, she gave birth to a little daughter with snow-white skin, red cheeks, and hair as black as ebony. Because of this, the child was called Little Snow-white. The queen died when her daughter was born.
