Au cœur de l’hiver, une reine cousait près d’une fenêtre encadrée d’ébène noir. Les flocons tombaient comme des plumes. En les regardant, elle s’est piqué le doigt et trois gouttes de sang sont tombées sur la neige.
At the heart of winter, a queen was sewing beside a window framed in black ebony. Snowflakes fell like feathers. As she watched them, she pricked her finger, and three drops of blood fell onto the snow.
Charmée par ce rouge sur le blanc, elle a souhaité un enfant à la peau blanche comme la neige, aux joues rouges comme le sang et aux cheveux noirs comme l’ébène.
Charmed by the red against the white, she wished for a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony.
Peu après est née une petite fille qui correspondait exactement à son vœu. On l’a nommée Blanche-Neige. Mais sa mère est morte en lui donnant la vie.
Soon afterward, a little girl was born who matched her wish exactly. They named her Snow White. But her mother died giving birth to her.
