Nace Blancanieves
Snow-white is born
English translation
In the middle of winter, as snowflakes fell like feathers, a queen was sewing beside a window made of ebony, a very black wood. As she sewed and watched the snow, she pricked her finger with the needle. Three drops of blood fell onto the white snow.
English translation
The queen found that contrast so beautiful that she thought:
“I wish I had a baby with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as this frame.”
English translation
Soon afterward, a girl was born with exactly those colors, so they named her Snow White. But the queen died in childbirth.
