Narodziny Śnieżki
Snow-white is born
English translation
One winter day, the queen sat by the window sewing. Outside, snow was falling, and its flakes looked like light feathers. The window had an ebony frame, made of very dark wood. Every now and then, the queen looked up from her sewing to watch the snow. Then she pricked her finger with the needle, and three drops of blood fell onto the white surface.
English translation
The red looked so beautiful against the snow that the queen thought, “If only I could have a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as this wooden frame!”
English translation
Soon she gave birth to a daughter who looked just as she had dreamed. The girl was named Snow White. But with the birth of the child came a misfortune: her mother died.
