Nasce Branca de Neve
Snow-white is born
English translation
Once upon a time, a queen was sewing beside a window on a day in the middle of winter. Outside, snowflakes fell from the sky like feathers. The window frame was made of ebony, a very dark wood. As she sewed and watched the snow, the queen pricked her finger with the needle. Three drops of blood fell onto the white snow.
English translation
The combination of colors seemed so beautiful to her that she thought: “How I wish I had a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the wood of this window!”
English translation
A little while later, her baby girl was born. The girl had skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony. That was why she was named Snow White. But the queen died when the child was born.
