Scene 1 · Beginner
One winter day, a queen sat by a window and sewed. Snow was falling outside, and the window frame was made of a black wood called ebony. As the Queen looked at the snow, she hurt her finger with her needle. Three drops of blood fell on the white snow.
The red and white looked beautiful together. The Queen wished for a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the window frame.
Soon afterward, she had a daughter who looked just as she had wished. The girl was called Little Snow-white. But when the child was born, the Queen died.
