Illustration for the scene “A warning at the river”

Scene 1 · Intermediate

A warning at the river

English translation

Moses and Aaron spoke to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, on behalf of the Israelites. But Pharaoh kept refusing to let them go.

English translation

God told Moses to meet Pharaoh the next morning when Pharaoh went out to the riverbank. Moses was to take the staff that had turned into a snake and deliver the message of the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: “Let my people go, so that they may serve me in the wilderness. Until now you have not listened to me.”

English translation

“I will strike the waters with the staff, and they will turn to blood. The fish will die, and the river will become so foul that the Egyptians will not be able to drink from it. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

English translation

God also gave an instruction for Aaron. He was to stretch out his hand with the staff over all the waters of Egypt: rivers, streams, ponds and reservoirs. They would all turn to blood, even the water in wooden and stone vessels.
