Illustration for the scene “A duck waiting on her nest”

Scene 1 · Beginner

A duck waiting on her nest

English translation

It was summer, and the countryside was beautiful. Forests and small lakes surrounded the fields. An old farmhouse stood near a river. Between the house and the water grew plants with enormous green leaves.

English translation

Under the leaves, a duck sat on her nest, waiting for her little ones to hatch. The wait was long, and the duck had grown tired. She was alone most of the time, too. The other ducks preferred to swim in the river and rarely came to see her.
