Snøhvit blir født
Snow-white is born
English translation
One winter day, a queen sat sewing by the window. It was snowing outside, and the window frame was made of a black wood called ebony. As the queen looked out at the snow, she pricked her finger with the needle. Three red drops of blood fell onto the white snow.
English translation
The queen wished for a child with skin as white as snow, cheeks as red as blood, and hair as black as the wood of the window frame. Not long afterward, she had a daughter who looked just like that. She was named Snow White. The queen died when the child was born.
