Scene 1 · Beginner

En engel besøker Maria

An angel visits Mary

English translation

God sent the angel Gabriel to the town of Nazareth in Galilee. Mary lived there and was engaged to Joseph. Joseph was a descendant of King David. Gabriel greeted Mary and told her that God was with her. She was troubled and didn’t understand what the angel meant.

English translation

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” Gabriel said. “You will have a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be called the Son of God. God will make him king, just as David was king before him. He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever.”

English translation

“How can that happen? I’ve never had sex,” Mary said.

English translation

Gabriel said the Holy Spirit would come to her and the child would be born through God’s power. He also told her that her relative Elizabeth was expecting a son, even though she was old and people thought she couldn’t have children. Elizabeth was now in her sixth month of pregnancy.

Norwegian

«Ingenting er umulig for Gud», sa Gabriel.

English translation

“Nothing is impossible for God,” Gabriel said.

Norwegian

Maria sa at hun ville tjene Gud, og at det kunne skje slik engelen hadde sagt. Så dro Gabriel.

English translation

Mary said she would serve God and was willing for things to happen just as the angel had said. Then Gabriel left.
