En engel besøker Maria
An angel visits Mary
English translation
When Elizabeth was in her sixth month of pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. A woman named Mary lived there. She was a virgin and was engaged to Joseph, a descendant of David. Gabriel came in and said to her:
“Rejoice, you who have received such great favor! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was deeply troubled when she saw the angel and heard his words. She wondered what such a greeting could mean.

English translation
“Do not be afraid, Mary,” Gabriel said. “God has shown you favor. You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. He will rule over Jacob’s descendants forever, and his kingdom will never end.”
English translation
“How can that happen when I am a virgin?” Mary asked.
English translation
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will surround you. That is why the holy child you bear will be called the Son of God. Your relative Elizabeth is also expecting a son, even though she is old. People said she could not have children, but now she is already in her sixth month.”
English translation
“For nothing God has said is impossible.”
English translation
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary replied. “Let it happen to me as you have said.”
Norwegian
Så forlot engelen henne.

Then the angel left her.
