Scene 1 · Beginner

Un înger o vizitează pe Maria

An angel visits Mary

English translation

Elizabeth was six months pregnant when God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a city in Galilee. Mary lived there, a young woman engaged to Joseph. Joseph was a descendant of David.

English translation

Gabriel came to Mary and told her that the Lord was with her and had blessed her. Mary was troubled and did not understand why he greeted her that way.

Romanian

— Nu te teme, Maria. Dumnezeu ți-a arătat bunăvoință.

English translation

“Do not be afraid, Mary. God has shown you favor. You will have a son, and you will name him Jesus,” the angel said.

English translation

Gabriel explained to her that Jesus would be called the Son of the Most High. God would give him the throne of his ancestor David. He would rule over the descendants of Jacob, and his kingdom would never end.

Romanian

— Cum se poate întâmpla aceasta? Nu am avut niciodată relații sexuale, a întrebat Maria.

English translation

“How can this happen? I have never had sexual relations,” Mary asked.

Romanian

Apoi i-a vorbit despre ruda ei, Elisabeta.

English translation

The angel told her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and that God’s power would rest on her. For this reason, the holy child would be called the Son of God. Then he told her about her relative, Elizabeth. Though Elizabeth was old and people believed she could not have children, she was now six months pregnant.

English translation

Nothing God says is impossible.

English translation

“I am the Lord’s servant. May it happen just as you have said,” Mary replied.

Romanian

Atunci îngerul a plecat.

English translation
